Why supporting parents and caregivers and promoting positive parenting is important for prevention of violence against children:
Most violence against children happens in the early years – and in the child’s home.
Many parents have personal vulnerabilities (e.g. personal history of violence or abuse; low empathy; depression; stress; poor social support; lack of child development and parenting knowledge) which create a risk for them to become violent with their children. Violence against children causes immediate and long-term damage – to children and society.
